(Chinese wolfberry of Goji berry)

In China there are many stories about the life-prolonging effects of wolfberry. Red-orange berries are often called “fruit of joy and longevity” and it is said that they bring perfect health when taken in a form of tea for the whole year. Wolfberry is indispensable food supplement in China and it has very long tradition in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese medicine. This exceptionally wholesome delicacy is full of vitamins, minerals, trace elements and is one of the richest plant sources of carotenoids.  

Origin: northwest China, Gansu province

Part of the plant used: fruit

Use in the following conditions:

  • immunity strengthening
  • eyesight improvement
  • boosting the energy of kidneys
  • promotion of blood formation and blood circulation
  • balancing hormonal system
  • stimulation of digestion
  • support and protection of liver, detoxication of the whole body
  • slowing down the process of aging.

Preparation and dosage: 2-4 teaspoons (= approx. 6-15g) per 1/2 liter of water. Boil for 5-10 minutes. Drink infusion (including berries) in the course of the day, preferably before the meals. Dried berries are edible, and can be even used in preparation of various meals (rice, soups, or porridge). Minimum regeneration course is one month, optimum 2-3 months. Recommended daily dose of wolfberries: 6 – 15g.

Effects: Wolfberry shows adaptogenic, immunostimulating, antioxidative, detoxifying and regenerative effects. Except for proteins, fats, sugars, fiber and essential amino acids fruit contains high volume of carotenoids with strong antioxidative effects. Further it contains provitamin A, vitamins B1, B2, B6, C and E; minerals such as phosphorus, calcium and iron, and trace elements such as zinc, copper and selenium. It contains also a small amount of germanium which is able to act against cancerous cells. Important component in wolfberry is betaine. It has beneficial effect on regeneration of liver cells, lowers a level of blood fat and sugar, and can help in prevention of atherosclerosis. Infusion also contains substances of steroid character, alkaloids, and immuno-active polysaccharides with ability to remove free radicals.

Contraindications: Do not use when suffering from food allergy and/or intolerance.
